A Resident’s Guide to the 15 Top 5-Star Hotels in Ho Chi Minh City

When compared to developed Asian metropolises like Tokyo and Singapore, or luxury markets in Europe and the United States, 5-star accommodations in Ho Chi Minh City are incredibly affordable. In this city, opulence is accessible; it isn’t restricted to just a comfortable mattress. You can secure some of the finest luxury experiences for as little as $100 per night, with the absolute pinnacle of high-end hotels starting between $200 and $300 USD.

Living in HCMC gives me a distinct advantage: I know exactly where these properties are located. I understand the flow of local traffic, the convenience of the neighborhoods, where to find easy food and drinks nearby, and which attractions are within walking distance. I have navigated the streets around them and enjoyed cocktails at their rooftop bars. In the guide below, you will find my detailed recommendations, covering amenities, local activities, and specific pros and cons.

I have previously mentioned a few of HCMC’s best 5-star properties in my articles regarding District 1 and District 3 accommodations. However, this guide focuses strictly on the luxury segment, highlighting the absolute nicest places to stay in town.

While most recommendations are central, a few are located outside the main hubs of Districts 1 and 3. For transportation, I strongly suggest downloading the Grab application, as it is the superior method for navigating Ho Chi Minh City. Traditional taxis like Mai Linh and Vinasun are reliable, but Grab provides price transparency, which is vital for visitors. If you are looking for something different, I have also authored a guide on budget-friendly hotels in HCMC.

Top Luxury Hotels in District 1

Where futuristic skylines blend with French colonial history, you find District 1—the beating heart of Saigon. Staying here places you within walking distance of the Walking Street, the Central Post Office, and the Notre Dame Cathedral. For first-time visitors looking to maximize sightseeing and minimize travel time, this is the best district.

1. The Park Hyatt Saigon

The Park Hyatt Saigon (District 1)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime locationNone
Globally recognized luxury brand
Beautiful outdoor pool
24-hour Hyatt Concierge for business needs

When it comes to location, The Park Hyatt Saigon and the Caravelle Saigon Hotel are arguably the best positioned luxury properties in the city. Sitting right on Lam Son Square, the city’s most prestigious address, the Park Hyatt is located directly opposite the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House. This area is often dubbed the “Paris of the East.”

While it is one of the most expensive hotels in the city, the quality is top-notch, as expected from the Park Hyatt brand. The property features French Colonial-style architecture with elegant archways and white shutters, perfectly complementing the historic Opera House. It houses 23 suites and 245 guestrooms.

If you prefer “Quiet Luxury” over the intense shimmer and chandeliers of The Reverie Saigon, this is the best choice.

Amenities & Dining:
The hotel features Square One, a Michelin-selected restaurant that offers a unique fusion of Vietnamese and French cuisines. For nightlife, 2 Lam Son is a trendy martini bar that frequently hosts live DJs. The on-site Xuan Spa uses ingredients from the Mekong Delta and is widely regarded as one of the city’s finest urban retreats.

Room rates for a 1 King Bed Garden View or City View generally start around $300+ per night, though I have seen rates dip to $260 depending on the season.

2. Caravelle Saigon Hotel

The Caravelle Saigon (adjacent to the Opera House)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Unbeatable location (facing the Opera House)Older structure (built 1959, refurbished 1998)
Outdoor pool open 24 hours for guests
Premier views of the Opera House
Vegas Club e-gaming casino on-site

As noted in the section above, the location of the Caravelle Saigon Hotel is arguably the finest in Ho Chi Minh City, with the Opera House sitting mere steps away.

Historical Significance:
The atmosphere here preserves a deep history. During the Vietnam War, the Caravelle housed the CBS, New Zealand, and Australian news bureaus. Journalists famously gathered at the rooftop bar to watch the horizon’s front lines while enjoying cocktails.

Offering the best views of the square, the Caravelle is the tallest building facing the Opera House.

The Opera House in front of the Hotel Continental and Caravelle Saigon in District 1

Rare for this city, the hotel features a good-sized outdoor pool on the 7th floor that remains open 24 hours for in-house guests (most pools close by 9 or 10 PM). There is also a 24-hour fitness center available for guests.

Inside, you will find the Vegas Club e-gaming casino.

Pro Tip: Be sure to visit the Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar on the top floor during Happy Hour. It offers an amazing open-air view of Lam Son Square and hasn’t changed much since 1959.

Rates at the Caravelle Saigon Hotel hover around $200 per night.

3. The Reverie Saigon

The Reverie Saigon (Nguyen Hue Street, District 1)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime locationYou might not want to leave your room
Outdoor swimming poolThe opulence might be overwhelming for some
Private butler service
Top-tier amenities

Occupying the 27th through 39th floors of the Times Square Saigon building, The Reverie Saigon is arguably the most extravagant luxury hotel on this list. It is the only property in Ho Chi Minh City that is a member of “The Leading Hotels of the World.”

The hotel is centrally located on Nguyen Hue Street in District 1. Every room boasts a fantastic view, with some offering dual perspectives of the city and the Saigon River.

Aesthetic & Design:
If you appreciate the maximalist style of Roberto Cavalli or Versace, you will love it here. The interiors are pure Italian opulence – think gold leaf, marble, and mosaics everywhere. The lobby even features a custom Baldi clock weighing nearly 1,000 kilograms. It employs professional butlers trained by the British Butler School.

The Reverie Saigon, adjacent to the Cafe Apartments in District 1

Everything here is sparkly, opulent, and lavish. The spa spans two floors, offering some of Vietnam’s most comprehensive wellness treatments, and the pool features an underwater sound system.

Depending on your room choice and dates, rates at The Reverie Saigon start at ~$220+ per night. I recently spotted the Deluxe Twin and Deluxe King at this price point, though you might find even better deals.

Enjoy your beluga sturgeon caviar.

4. The Myst Dong Khoi

Exterior of The Myst Dong Khoi

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime locationLess “fancy” than other options
Relatively new (opened 2016)
Distinctive decor and design
24-meter rooftop pool
Excellent value for 5 stars

Situated right behind The Reverie Saigon on the smaller Ho Huan Nghiep street (just off the famous Dong Khoi Street), The Myst Dong Khoi is likely the most affordable luxury option in this prime area.

Soulful Architecture:
Unlike international chain hotels, The Myst is deeply connected to local culture. The design incorporates reclaimed materials from the historic Ba Son Shipyard, such as giant chains and anchors. Wooden accents and stained glass soften the concrete ceilings, evoking the atmosphere of old Saigon alleyways.

The Myst Dong Khoi (District 1)

The hotel is an eight-minute walk to the Ho Chi Minh Statue and a five-minute walk to the Opera House. In the other direction, the Saigon River is just a 3-minute walk away.

Why I Recommend It:
Guests receive a complimentary afternoon tea, which is a delightful way to cool off after a day of exploring. The rooms feature open-plan bathtubs on the balconies, screened by plants for privacy—a very romantic touch.

You can find rooms at The Myst Dong Khoi for approximately $130 per night.

5. La Siesta Premium Saigon

La Siesta Premium (Ly Tu Trong Street)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Brand new property (2023)Some rooms lack windows
Great central locationLower floors have limited views
Intimate boutique feel
Fantastic rooftop views
Excellent value

Located in the Ben Thanh area of District 1, La Siesta Premium is a brand-new luxury boutique hotel built in 2023. It belongs to the Elegance Hospitality Group, renowned in Hanoi for offering arguably the best customer service in Vietnam.

The location on Ly Tu Trong Street is bustling with trendy cafes, ao dai tailor shops, and local life. It is less than 10 minutes from the Independence Palace (Reunification Palace) and just four minutes from Ben Thanh Market.

La Siesta Premium boutique hotel in District 1

On the 12th floor, the Twilight Sky Bar Saigon offers some of the best views in the city and has quickly become a favorite spot for sunset cocktails. The rooftop pool also boasts great views, though it is slightly smaller than others on this list.

The interior design combines classic dark wood accents with modern luxury, creating a sophisticated “gentleman’s club” atmosphere. Request a high floor when booking, as some rooms offer better views than others.

Rates at La Siesta Premium start around $150 per night.

6. New World Saigon Hotel

The New World Saigon (District 1)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Excellent, unique locationNone
Large outdoor swimming pool
Tennis court on-site
Fitness center open 24/7

The New World Saigon occupies a unique location on a triangular island where roads converge, sitting directly between the Bui Vien walking street and the Ben Thanh area.

This is the perfect luxury hotel if you want to be close to the backpacker party street (Bui Vien). You can party all night and then retreat to the total silence of your room. As noted, Ben Thanh Market is also just a five-minute walk away.

Historically, U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have stayed here. It is a large property with 533 suites and guestrooms, often hosting visiting dignitaries.

Amenities include a sauna, a 24/7 fitness center, and one of the largest outdoor pools in Ho Chi Minh City. There is also a tennis court; the hotel provides professional coaches, equipment, and can even arrange companion players if you need a partner.

Dining:
The breakfast buffet is legendary for its massive variety of Western and Asian options. For excellent tapas and live jazz, check out Whisper Bar & Lounge.

Room rates here generally hover around $180 per night.

7. JW Marriott Hotel & Suites (InterContinental Saigon)

Exterior of the JW Marriott (InterContinental)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Great locationNone
20-meter outdoor pool
Four on-site restaurants
Global luxury brand

Formerly the InterContinental Saigon, this property was reflagged as the JW Marriott in 2024. It is located in the “Diplomatic District,” away from the busy Dong Khoi/Nguyen Hue cluster, but still in a fantastic area.

If you prefer tree-lined boulevards over the intense commerce of Ben Thanh Market, this location is ideal. It is directly across from Ho Chi Minh City Book Street and less than a five-minute walk from the Saigon Central Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral.

The JW Marriott (InterContinental Saigon) across from Book Street in District 1

Attached to the mPlaza (a small mall with conveniences like Starbucks, ATMs, and the Hard Rock Cafe), the hotel features 305 rooms with panoramic city views.

Dining options include four restaurants: Yu Chu (Peking and Cantonese cuisine, famous for all-you-can-eat Dim Sum lunch), Basilico (a casual Italian trattoria), Market 39 (international and seafood buffet), and the Library (cocktails and international food).

While rooms usually cost $220 per night, I have seen flash deals dropping rates to $170.

8. Fusion Original Saigon Centre

Fusion Original Saigon Centre (inside the mall)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime locationNone
Situated inside a shopping mall
Incredible outdoor pool views
Newly constructed (2022)

Built in 2022, the Fusion Original Saigon Centre is a brand-new luxury hotel that brings an art-forward, youthful, and funky vibe to the luxury scene. Like every property on my list, the location is excellent.

It is situated directly inside the Saigon Centre and Takashimaya Shopping Mall. This means high-end fashion and Japanese goods are just downstairs, along with easy dining and shopping options.

Wellness Focus:
Fusion hotels are renowned for their wellness concepts. A unique perk here is the “Reload Pantry” on each floor, offering complimentary refreshments 24/7.

The outdoor swimming pool offers one of the city’s best views, with a direct line of sight to the Bitexco Financial Tower.

Rates at Fusion Original Saigon Centre usually start at $120 per night, though I have spotted Original Twin and King Rooms for as low as $100.

9. Lotte Hotel Saigon

The Lotte Hotel Saigon (Riverside)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Located on the Saigon RiverNo walk-out balconies
Massive outdoor pool
24/7 fitness center
Solid in-house dining options
Excellent price point

Among the roughly six hotels situated along the river, the Lotte Hotel Saigon is one of the better options and a very popular place to stay. Thanks to its spacious grounds, it feels more like a resort than a standard city hotel.

Exterior of the 5-star Lotte Hotel Saigon (District 1)

The property features 283 rooms, each with a separate sitting and working area. The outdoor swimming pool is the widest in Ho Chi Minh City and is surrounded by lush gardens, making it perfect for families with children who need space to run around.

Guests can utilize the business center (scanners, binding, high-speed printers, fax, PCs) and a complimentary shuttle bus to major landmarks on request, saving on Grab fares. 24/7 limousine and shuttle services are also available.

Dining includes four restaurants: Crystal Jade Palace (Chinese), Ottimo House Trattoria (Italian), Yoshino (Japanese), and The Canvas (international buffet famous for lobster nights). There is also the Legend Lounge lobby bar, the Pool Bar, and Delica Hans bakery.

Rates at the Lotte Hotel Saigon can be found for as low as $120 per night.

10. Hotel Majestic Saigon

The Hotel Majestic (Riverside)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime river locationSmall outdoor pool
Rooftop dining offers some of Saigon’s best viewsOlder building
Great value for 5 starsLess posh than other 5-star options
Private balconies

Dating all the way back to 1925, the Hotel Majestic Saigon approaches its centennial as a “French colonial-style luxury” landmark. Located directly across from the Saigon River, it is likely the best-located riverside hotel and remains a very popular choice.

Exterior of the Hotel Majestic Saigon (District 1)

A Living Museum:
Having survived both the Vietnam War and World War II, walking into the lobby feels like stepping onto a vintage movie set. It features an old-fashioned cage elevator, period furniture, and stained glass.

The hotel has 174 suites and rooms with private balconies and full marble bathrooms.

For some of the best river views in HCMC, visit the two rooftop bars and restaurants, Breeze Sky Bar and M Bar. Sipping a “Happy Saigon” cocktail while enjoying the legendary breeze and watching barges float by is a must-do.

Depending on travel dates, rooms at the Hotel Majestic Saigon cost around $120 per night.

Top Luxury Hotel in District 2

District 2, specifically the An Phu and Thao Dien areas, serves as the city’s “Expat Bubble.” It feels like a European village in the tropics, filled with villa compounds, organic markets, and international schools. It is more artistic, cleaner, and quieter than District 1.

11. Mia Saigon

Mia Saigon (District 2)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Very quiet settingNot close to main city attractions
Relatively new (2019)
Intimate and small
Riverside location
Close to Thao Dien

Defining the term “Urban Resort,” Mia Saigon is one of the finest luxury boutique hotels in Ho Chi Minh City.

Located in a very quiet section of An Phu, right next to Thao Dien in District 2, the hotel sits directly on the banks of the Saigon River. It even has a private pier, allowing guests to arrive by speedboat.

Design:
The aesthetic blends Indochine elements with early 20th-century Art Deco influence – imagine intricate lacquerware, brass fixtures, and emerald green tiles.

There are 17 lavish suites and 35 spacious rooms. The 25-meter outdoor pool overlooks the river.

Staying in District 2 can be a pro or a con depending on your vacation goals. While most major tourist attractions are in Districts 1 and 3, a trip to the city center takes only 15-20 minutes by GrabTaxi (traffic permitting). The Grab app is one of my recommended travel apps for Vietnam; download it here.

A fantastic strategy is to explore the city center and then return to the sanctuary of Mia Saigon. Be sure to try Kitchen by the River for incredible brunch options on the water.

Rates here start around $180 per night.

Top Luxury Hotels in District 3

District 3 is my personal favorite. It retains the history of District 1 but offers a more authentic, local feel with wider sidewalks and more trees. It is famous for colonial villas converted into cafes and restaurants.

12. La Vela Saigon Hotel

La Vela Saigon (District 3)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Best rooftop pool in the cityFurther walk to attractions than other options
Large on-site movie theater
Excellent value
Massive 24/7 fitness center

Largely thanks to Instagram, La Vela Saigon has become one of the most popular 5-star hotels in the city.

It boasts the biggest and best rooftop infinity pool in Ho Chi Minh City. Spanning the length of the building, the pool looks remarkably similar to the famous Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, albeit smaller.

Even if you aren’t staying here, you can access the facilities with a pool day pass: 250.000 VND for children and 350.000 VND for adults.

View of La Vela Saigon from my condo rooftop in Phu Nhuan

The downside is that the location is a bit further from attractions compared to the Hotel des Arts Saigon. The War Remnants Museum is a 20-minute walk, and spots like the Independence Palace, Post Office, and Cathedral are slightly further.

However, District 3 is a delight to stroll through, with much more greenery than District 1. It is not a boring or bad walk at all. You can easily base yourself here to enjoy the pool and walk to the sights.

La Vela features a spa, 24/7 fitness center, sky bar and lounge, three restaurants, and an on-site CGV movie theater (perfect for rainy days). Rooms start around $120 per night.

13. Hôtel des Arts Saigon, MGallery Collection

Hôtel des Arts Saigon (District 3)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime locationNone
Intimate and small
100% non-smoking rooms
Pet-friendly
Beautiful rooftop bar and pool area

Along with Mia Saigon (District 2) and La Siesta Premium (District 1), the Hôtel des Arts Saigon and Mai House Saigon Hotel are the premier luxury boutique options in the city.

This MGallery property markets itself as an art museum you can sleep in, with a lobby full of antiques and original paintings. It is located in a fantastic part of District 3, just a short walk from top attractions. The city’s energy is right outside, but the hotel remains a quiet retreat.

The area is highly walkable: 10 minutes to the War Remnants Museum, eight minutes to the Independence Palace, and seven minutes to the Central Post Office and Cathedral.

The hotel features an infinity pool with great views and the Social Club rooftop bar. The wooden bridge connecting the bar and pool is a famous photo spot. The Social Club attracts a mix of locals and stylish expats – it is a place to “be seen.”

This is a truly lovely hotel.

14. Mai House Saigon Hotel

Mai House Saigon (District 3)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Prime locationNone
Relatively new (2019)
Good value for money

For those seeking a luxury boutique experience in District 3 that offers excellent value, Mai House Saigon Hotel is a gem. Its design reflects a modern take on the French Indochine era, centered on the philosophy “Made with Love.”

Situated on the quiet Ngo Thoi Nhiem street, the hotel is in a very walkable area. The War Remnants Museum is less than five minutes away, the Independence Palace is 10 minutes away, and the Post Office/Cathedral are about 15 minutes away.

Inside, the hotel features tube lighting that creates a warm nostalgic glow, sweeping staircases, and stunning black-and-white tiled floors. Facilities include an outdoor pool, sauna, spa, and 24/7 fitness center.

Every day from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, Afternoon High Tea is served in the grand lobby. Packages include the Mai House High Tea (850.000+ VND/set for 2 guests with coffee/tea) and the Royal High Tea (1.450.000+ VND/set for 2 guests with sparkling wine bottle & coffee/tea).

Along with the Hotel des Arts, this is the best option for a boutique luxury stay in District 3.

Rates at Mai House Saigon Hotel hover around $130 per night. It is a frequently overlooked treasure.

Top Luxury Hotel in Binh Thanh

Binh Thanh District borders District 1 and is home to the Vinhomes Central Park development. This area is rapidly modernizing and resembles a slice of Dubai or Singapore.

15. Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection

Vinpearl Landmark 81 (Vietnam’s tallest building)

Location: Google Maps • Hotel Website

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Part of the Marriott familyNot walking distance to main attractions
Convenient, self-contained areaSweaty palms (fear of heights!)
Sweaty palms
Adjacent to Vinhomes Central Park

Situated within the Landmark 81 building, Vinpearl Landmark 81 is located in the tallest building in Vietnam, the second-tallest in Southeast Asia, and one of the tallest globally.

Hotel rooms occupy the 47th through 71st floors. Staying here means literally sleeping in the clouds; on overcast days, you might see nothing but white fluff out your window!

Outside Landmark 81 (cue sweaty palms)

Beyond the hotel, the building houses a cinema, an ice skating rink, a massive mall on the lower levels, dozens of restaurants, luxury apartments, and the SkyView observation deck on the top floors.

While busier with families, this area is quieter regarding traffic noise. Vinhomes Central Park sits right across the street. Modeled after Central Park in NYC, it features walking paths along the river, a koi pond, and massive lawns. It is one of my favorite parks in HCMC.

View of Landmark 81 from Vinhomes Central Park

A GrabTaxi ride to District 1 or 3 attractions takes about 10-12 minutes.

With a WinMart grocery store in the basement and numerous coffee shops and eateries in the surrounding high-rise condos, this is a nice, self-contained base for a few days – especially with the park nearby.

As part of the Marriott Bonvoy program, you can redeem or earn points at Vinpearl Landmark 81.
